Electrifying organic synthesis
Bio
Professor Waldvogel is head of the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. His research topics are mainly focused on organic electrochemistry including transformation of bio-based feedstocks.
They cover the whole range of electrolysis development: from screening techniques to upscaling elecrosynthetic conversions. Recently his group managed to produce the highly demanded compound vanillin from wood waste, using green electro-organic methods. In 2020, he received the Manuel M. Baizer award. He also started up ESy-Labs, which won the CHEManager Innovation Pitch of the Year award.
